The Basics

Style - Imperial Stout

Description

Rich and full-bodied imperial stout with layers of chocolate and roasted malt, balanced by a sweet finish and a velvety, heavy mouthfeel. Aged in a Clonakilty Irish whiskey barrel in partnership with Clonakilty Distillery.

The name

The name comes from a lighthouse in the town of Clonakilty Ireland (in county Cork) which also happens to be named Galley head. Fun fact: this beer was brewed in partnership with Clonakilty distillery who sent us a freshly dumped whiskey barrel to age the rest of this beer in until St PAtricks Day 2026.

BEER FACT

Imperial stout is a strong, dark beer style that originated in 18th-century London as an exported extra stout; porter for Russia and the Baltic countries, with the name referencing the court of Catherine the Great. Key characteristics include high alcohol content (8–12% ABV), deep roasted malt flavors like coffee and chocolate, a full-bodied, chewy mouthfeel, and a range of fruit and hop notes. Its bold flavors and strength make it ideal for pairing with rich foods like beef stew, chocolate cake, and cheese.
